The Haggis
The Haggis website represents a long
established family business which now
services a worldwide market and has a
long-standing reputation for excellence.
The site presents an overview of the
business and its history, and also
incorporates an online shop with a
content management system.
The business has diverse and very
interesting promotional associations,
and these are presented via dedicated
site pages along with an image gallery.
The enterprise and dynamism of the the
business owner and his attention to
detail make this website an excellent
example of how to present products in
an attractive and informative manner.
It is worth noting how the site manages
to promote the items for sale within an
extended context. Pride in the family
history of the business and association
with dynamic and interesting activities
contribute to an excellent showcase for
the high quality products themselves.

Millers Tale
The Millers Tale website is an online
shop with several innovative features.
The site has been designed to allow
the owner to change all aspects of the
graphical appearance very easily, using
an extremely comprehensive content
management system.
The diverse nature if the items for sale
makes it necessary to incorporate a
flexible way to apply carriage charges,
where required, on a per-item basis.
Whilst being essentially very simple to
navigate, the site is extremely powerful
and extensible, with up to five major
shop departments and multiple sub-
departments.

Gartnafuaran Farm Cottage
This is a small "brochure" website
which includes an image gallery and
interactive area map.
The Gartnafuaran Farm Holiday
Cottage is situated in beautiful
surroundings in historic Balquhidder.
Pictures say more than words and so
why not click through to the website to
take a look at the Gartnafuaran Farm
Holiday Cottage website picture gallery
of local scenes.

Hans Kayser
This website has a large collection of
text articles, managed very efficiently
using a frame based site design with a
left hand expanding menu system. The
multi-level expanding menu can be
extended easily and incorporates a
sophisticated graphical presentation
with indented guides.
The Hans Kayser site is also unusual in
that it presents complex information of
a technical nature, incorporating
diagrams and equations.

Intaprint
This website is interesting in that it has
an unusual product pricing structure
associated with the shopping cart.
Most products have multiple variations
and pricing is based on quantity
packages. The shopping cart calculates
pricing and carriage from tables which
can be easily updated by the site
owner.

The Atom and the Octave
This website is dedicated to the work of
Maryel Gardyne. Her book "The Atom
and the Octave" is the culmination of
many years of research, and draws
together compelling evidence of the
universal relevance of harmonic
relationships and proportion in nature.
Maryel Gardyne's book integrates the
work of many philosophers and
scientists, ranging from Kepler and
Goethe, through Hans Kayser, to
modern quantum theory.
The Atom and the Octave website is
simple in structure and presents
unobtrusively a very important body of
knowledge.

Stoveco Woodburning Stoves
The Stoveco Woodburning Stoves
website is an attractive modern non-
framed open-architecture site which is
steadily being updated and enlarged.
This website provides facilities for the
use of long scrolling extensible pages
and can have versatile navigation on a
page-by-page basis.
The website is fully managed with a
phased development plan to meet the
needs of an expanding business.
Powerful CMS facilities allow the site
owner to add complete web pages if
required. These pages are fully
automatically generated without the
need to use HTML code.

St Andrews Health Foods
This is a very simple single page
website which has the capabilitry of
being extended later into a more
informative multi-page site or even a
small online shop.
The website is designed to give a good
visual impression of the business and
to give an attractive and immediate
indication of the very wide range of
products available.
This kind of site is an ideal starting
point for small businesses moving onto
the internet for the first time.
A site of this nature can be quickly set
up (less than a week) and can be freely
extended at any time.

The Saltire Stables website is designed
to be a very comprehensive online
catalogue for a wide and growing range
of products.
The website has facilities for displaying
detailed technical information along
with a product image gallery and
slideshow with unlimited capacity and
categorised display.
The site has full CMS facilities for
online editing of all page content by the
site owner.
In addition to the self-update procedure
Helios provides a site-content editing,
research, and upload service. This
ensures that management of the
website content is adequately
implemented under all circumstances.

This is, at present, a simple and
concise single-page website created
to present the books of musicologist
and author Mitzi DeWhit.
The site has been designed to function
effectively as a single page initially, but
it is ready to be expanded with more
detailed content and extra pages later.
Mitzi’s books are made available for
sale via links to Amazon, thus allowing
the site to function as a source of
sales without needing e-commerce
facilities.

Stoveco
This is a commercial “hub” website
which is designed to act as a central
presentation of all aspects of the
business concerned.
This central site contains general
information, and then transfers the
visitor to separate specialised websites
designed to cover individual aspects of
the business in more detail.
This multi-site approach to providing a
good web presence for businesses with
diverse commercial aspects works well
for both site visitors and for search
engine optimisation.

Stoves and Stoveco Online Store
sites above.

The Alchemical Research website is a
very small site designed to represent
online, in terms of graphical layout and
style, a specific printed document .
The site is thus created using a fixed
graphical format to ensure universal
visual presentation in all browsers.
As a “dual language” website, the
Alchemical Research site has each
page available in both a French and
an English version. The site also has
a “dual” domain name with English
and French versions.

Jane Weaver
Jane Weaver’s website is a personal
artisitic statement, and a presentation
of Jane’s fabulous collection of quilts.
The site was designed to embody quite
strict aesthetic considerations and Jane
had a very good idea of what she
wanted from the final site design.
A particular requirement was the ability
for the site to present large images of
Jane’s quilts with an optional scrolling
view to see details interactively.
The site has a full CMS facility so that
Jane can update and add material
herself.

Caroline Trotter
This small website is designed to
showcase the work of photographer
Caroline Trotter.
The site has its main content pages
managed by Helios, but the photograph
gallery is managed by Caroline herself
using a CMS system.
This site does not use a secure enquiry
form, our preferred method, but on
request from the site owner implements
a simple “mailto” facility to encourage
email responses. This is a good
example of the way a Helios bespoke
site design can be set up however you
choose, allowing your own preferred
presentation.
The Purvis Family Tree
This is a large genealogy website
written partly by Helios and modified
from "The Next Generation" genealogy
package.
This site is the only instance of Helios
using software not programmed
exclusively "in house".
Taking advantage of the complex
existing functionality of "The Next
Generation" allowed us to avoid the
time-consuming labour of writing new
code in a very specialised area.

R.I.L.K.O.
The R.I.L.K.O. website is a fully user-
editable site with content management
system and easy extensibility.
The site features include a very easy
to maintain but powerful image gallery,
secure response forms, and a very
simple navigation structure.
The intention is to expand the site
over time, and Helios will provide
ongoing backup and editorial support
to the site owners.
One welcome and interesting feature
of this site is that many of the images
are individual artistic illustrations
provided by members of R.I.L.K.O..
The dramatic header image was very
kindly provided by photographer Chris
Spracklen. Thanks Chris!
Chris Spracklen has many other
excellent photographs on his website
which are available for use under
license. A link to Chris’s site can be
seen on the R.I.L.K.O. page.

Tigh na Crich
The Tigh na Crich website is one of a
set of small and economical sites built
on a pre-designed framework coded by
Helios.
These “standardised” designs include
four or six pages of information, a
scrolling “Google” map, and a secure
contact form.
See also the Lochearnhead Post Office
on our second portfolio page and the
Gartnafuaran Farm Cottage and The
Atom and the Octave sites above on
this page.
These sites have proved to be very
successful and have attracted many
positive comments. They provide an
ideal low-budget solution where
graphical presentation is important and
site content is not too extensive.

Combined Technologies
Simplicity and ease of maintenance is
the essential characteristic of this type
of website.
The navigation is very easy, entirely
controlled from the top of the page.
Each page can be as long as required
and extends full width, allowing for
maximum flexibility of page design.
This type of design is ideally suited to
small websites which will never require
complex navigation or large numbers of
pages.
This is a simple but very effective and
economical solution for small websites.

Stoveco Online Store
The Stoveco Online Store is closely
associated with its sister sites Stoveco
Woodburning Stoves (see above)
and Stoveco (see below).
The Stoveco Woodburning Stoves
and the Stoveco websites are both
purely informational, while the online
store seen here is concerned with e-
commerce and sales promotion.
All three sites are controlled entirely
from a single unified administative
facility, even though they reside on
different domains.
The online store currently has three
sales departments, but has been
constructed in such a manner that, if
required, these sections can later be
“split off” into separate websites.
The powerful CMS facilities allow the
site owner to revise products and
manage stock. The site also has a
powerful “one-click-mailshot” facility to
allow selective email shots to be sent
to existing or prospective customers.
Steetley Minerals
The Steetley Minerals website is a
good demonstration of the compact
presentation of a large range of items.
Concentrating on visual presentation
of individual items, the site uses an
image gallery with thumbnails which
is fully integrated into an online shop.
An advanced CMS allows the site
owner to manage the whole item
database as well as the informational
pages.
Complex product categorisation, a
flexible currency selection feature,
and extended search functions make
this site a good example of the power
and configurability of the Helios online
shop.
